  • Did you know that one of the most effective ways to reverse global warming is actually incredibly easy to implement? I sure didn’t until very recently, but luckily @leotielovely has the whole low down, which you can now find on the blog. Link in bio to learn more 🌱

  • I believe the future of sustainable fashion is gender neutral. And no, I don’t mean everyone wearing masculine cuts and plain colours. I mean a future without pointless gender labelling on products, where people are free to wear whatever they like no matter how loud or plain, trousers or dress. A world where we can swap, share and have more fun, together. Gender ain’t binary, so fashion sure shouldn’t be! Full thoughts are, as always, on the blog. Link in bio ☁️✨💖

  • Super stoked to say I’ll be working with Chisato Minamimura this March! Chisato is a Japanese born, UK based, deaf dance artist; this project will bring together participants from both the deaf and hearing communities in Newcastle for a week long workshop and performance. A few years ago I took part in a similar project where I was able to learn more about ASL, it was a really educational and formative time in learning more about the deaf community and the wider world. I’m excited to learn some BSL and do work with such a beautiful artist to continue my education in this area, and to learn more about what it looks like to walk through the world as a person who is deaf. I really would like to start learning BSL properly this year too, so if you have recommendations of online platforms with particularly good courses please do also let me know 💖

  • Did you know that one of the easiest ways to reduce your plastic waste is to look at how you do your laundry? Most of us have some form of synthetic textiles in our wardrobe (even if it’s just through secondhand shopping!) which, when put in a washing machine, shed plastic microfibres into our waterways. Microfibres are just like microbeads, absorbing toxins and working their way into our food chains as they get eaten by small sea critters, which is not an ideal situation. You can avoid this by washing your synthetic clothes in a GUPPYFRIEND washing bag, which is specifically designed to catch microfibres, and stop your clothes contributing to the problem. An easy solution to a big waste problem! 🌊✨🌿

  • |AD| Every person that has a period has a completely different experience and a completely different body, which means that one sustainable solution doesn’t work for everyone. Whether it be due to disability, motor issues, mental health, money, access or comfort, trying to make your period more sustainable is most definitely a journey. And for those at the beginning of that journey, or who can’t use reusables, I think organic options from @graceandgreen are a great step to take! Their organic cotton products are biodegradable and plastic free, whilst keeping toxic chemicals, bleaches or any other funny stuff far away from your body. Plus they run a subscription service, so you can have everything you need delivered straight to your door in plastic free packaging which saves you money over time (& as we know, a big issue with reducing waste is accessibility of products!). ✨
@graceandgreen are currently offering 50% off first time subscriptions in their online shop, but you can get an extra 10% off by adding the code G&GEU at checkout, giving you 60% off your first month! They’ve got tampons and pads galore, and they also have reusable products in development, so there’s a little something for everyone in there

  • Unpaid work perpetuates privilege. There’s no two ways about it: whether it’s an intern or an influencer, asking people to work for free means you only end up working with people who can AFFORD to work for free. Aka, privileged people. I’ve done a deep dive over on the blog about why this is bad for all of us: it leads to activism that isn’t intersectional, it keeps the marginalised from entering work forces where their perspectives and representation are sorely needed, and it ultimately means that that the powerful stay powerful and the rich stay rich. Much more on this and the concept of cultural hegemony, society and shifting industries, via the link in my bio. 🌱

  • Weekends are for community building 🌿✨🌻
Today, alongside chores and a bit of alone rest time, I made space for in person connections. It’s easy to lose touch with the real world when the weather sucks, opting to hibernate indoors instead, but I went outside despite the rain for coffee and conversation. I caught up with friends and chatted about social justice, change, and memories of summer. I did some work with @teeganegerton (who also took this photo!); silently sitting at our own laptops but sharing space accompanied by Bob Dylan songs. Being around other people is vital, especially when we work in fields that can often feel so heavy and overwhelming, because ultimately it makes our mental health, our work and our advocacy better too. I wrote a piece on building community which you can read on my blog now, but let me encourage you to brave the cold and go outside if you can. Work from home alongside another person next week, or vow to spend some time with someone where you don’t talk about work or don’t look at your phone. I believe life is better when it’s balanced, and taking time to be with people makes that a whole lot easier. 💞💞💞
  • #AD Guess who had a food waste dinner party! 🥗🥗🥗
Food waste is a huge problem around the world, in the UK alone we send 250,000 tonnes of edible food into landfill each year. However I recently discovered @toogoodtogo.uk, a free app helping people rescue food from going to waste across the country. The app lets you rescue a magic bag of food from local businesses at the end of the day - you end up with a whole variety of fresh unsold food at a discounted price, and you stop it going in the bin! My friend Gianna and I got a magic bag and we rescued so much we were able to enjoy a whole feast comprised of good food that would've been wasted. I always love sharing, but it feels even better when you're helping the planet at the same time 💖
