Ethical Advent Day 19: Winter Face Masks

Today I’ve actually got a few recipes for you to choose from. In the past I always loved getting a little face mask in my stocking; I like to take the lost days between Christmas and New Years for a bit of pamper time, and so I’d crack a face mask out and just generally take care of my skin alongside that rest period. This year I’ve taken matters into my own hands and made some natural and non-toxic face mask sets for some of my friends to do the same. Face masks are indulgent but easy to make, and they can be lovely wee gifts.

Below are some of the recipes I’ve used this year to make facial treats for my friends, you can use them yourself or as inspiration depending on what ingredients you can get hold of. The best way to do these is to make them right before you’re going to give them, so they’ll stay fresh for as long as possible, but each mask only takes a couple of minutes to make, so it’s not too difficult. Apart from that, have fun!

Spicy Christmas Mask

– 2 Teaspoons Bentonite Clay
– 1 Teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
– 1 Teaspoon Water
– 1/2 Teaspoon Olive Oil
– 1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
– 1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon

Mix all ingredients together until well combined and store in the fridge.

Note – this may not be the best face mask for anyone with super sensitive skin. Cinnamon increases blood flow, so being flushed/a little red after washing this mask off is normal and will go down, but can irritate highly sensitive skin.

Soothing Relaxation Mask

– 2 Teaspoons Aloe Vera Gel
– 2 Teaspoons Olive Oil
– 1/2 ripe banana
– 1/2 teaspoon grated cucumber

Smash the banana in a bowl before adding other ingredients. Stir until well combined and store in the fridge.

New Year Detox Mask

– 2 Teaspoons Bentonite Clay
– 1 Teaspoon Charcoal Powder (I have charcoal tablets so I crushed them first)
– 3 Teaspoons Water

Mix your ingredients together until well combined, adding more water if needed to reach desired consistency, then place in a small container and store in the fridge.

And there you go, the recipes I’m using for face mask gifts this Christmas. Give them to a beauty lover you know or use them on yourself in your post Christmas down time.

Until next time, stay magic y’all
