Ethical Advent Day 16 : Hempme Organic
Although I’m firmly back in England now, Australian company Hempme just had to make an appearance on this list. I’m happy to say this Melbourne based company are one of my favourite travel discoveries, and favourite products I’ve discovered this year overall, so if you’re looking for a non-homemade skincare gift, their 100% natural, organic skincare is the one for you.
Hempme were kind enough to give me a sample of their hemp-based face cream, and I really fell for it straight away. Their cream is vegan, cruelty free, organic, made ethically in Australia and certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO), guaranteeing all stages of the production line from soil to tube meet their high requirements. Their face cream is focused on hemp seed oil that is cold pressed from the seed of the hemp plant, a highly sustainable and versatile crop. Hemp seed oil has a huge amount of skin benefits, being high in amino acids and well known for protecting and hydrating skin whilst also being antibacterial and antifungal. The cream also has aloe vera which soothes skin and improves blood flow, chamomile extract which protects skin and encourages repair, jojoba oil which boosts skin with its natural antioxidants, and kakadu plum oil which protects cells. All of their main ingredients are rich sources of goodies like amino acids and vitamins, with a range of great natural benefits for skin, and you can find a full breakdown of ingredients on their website, shoutout for transparency.
On top of all that, you know what the best bit is? Their tube is biodegradable! Their tubes are injected with an enzyme during production by a company called ECM Biofilms, making the tubes 100% biodegradable on land, in land and in water. Biodegradable plastics, the best piece of news this year!! Hempme’s end goal is to eventually have all products packaged in 100% hemp bioplastics, which you can learn more about here.
Having actually tried this cream, I have to say it’s a wonderful product, and makes a great gift for men and women alike. It smells fresh, natural and subtle, definitely not synthetic or overly perfumey at all, and it makes my face feel soft, hydrated and protected in this harsh English winter. I’ve been putting it on before bed, and I can feel it working on my skin whilst simultaneously helping me wind down with its calming chamomile. I actually feel like the word love doesn’t accurately describe how much I like this product, it’s certainly the best face cream I’ve ever used.
