Hot on the heels of my sustainable summer tips; if you are in desperate need of a new bathing suit here’s a quick round up of some of my seven favourite sustainable options that still make you look fine as hell without hurting people or the planet.

Underprotection

A Danish brand, ethically made in a small Fair Wear Foundation factory from recycled polyester (which takes from 33% – 53% less energy compared to producing virgin polyester and produces far less emissions, as well as keeping plastics out of landfill). They’re also certified by OEKO-TEX® for their polyester recycling. Shop them on Azura Bay.

MYMARINI

Ethical swim and surfwear from Europe. All designs are developed in Hamburg, the yarn and the labels are made in Germany, the fabric comes from Italy, and pieces are produced in Croatia, whilst everyone is paid fairly and treated ethically. Fabric is OEKO-TEX® certified and created as consciously as possible. Shop here.

Vitamin A

This Californian Brand use a special material known as EcoLux™ matte superfine jersey, which is made with recycled nylon and produced locally in California. Their prints are created, when possible, with waterless digital technology at factories specially chosen for their approaches to conserving electricity and water. Shop them on Azura Bay.

AMARA

Reversible, mix and match, and sometimes convertible, styles for extra versatility and longevity summer after summer. Pieces are made of recycled Nylon recovered from oceans, as well as Xtralife Lycra to increase durability. Fabric is manufactured in a green energy facility that works to reduce pollution, protect green spaces, preserve water, and monitor gas emissions, whilst the swimwear is designed and made in Tulum by local artisans. allSisters

An eco-conscious brand based in Barcelona, their pieces are made with recycled textiles from Italy that carry the Made in Green by OEKO-TEX® certification, guaranteeing that they are tested for harmful substances and are made in environmentally friendly facilities and socially responsible workplaces. She Made Me

For the boho aesthetic lovers out there, She Made Me produce artisan focused, handmade crochet swimwear. Every piece is hand crocheted in limited quantities by local artisans in Bali, who work from their homes in villages throughout the island and are treated fairly. Pieces are made of natural fibres, which will biodegrade at the end of their life cycle, and lined with lycra to make them long lasting. Shop here.

Breakfast Swim

Whilst not in production yet, these prints are so cute that I think you’ll want to keep an eye out for when these become available! All swimsuits are made from Econyl, a 100% recycled nylon fibre from fishing nets, and printed using digital technology that needs virtually no water.
