Today we are leaving Brisbane; after three shows, a workshop, and a little bit of down time it is on to the next location. There are a lot of great things about this city, but one of the coolest things to discover is the variety of things you can find if you’re into this whole ethical lifestyle thing, or if you love yourself some vegan food. Brisbane’s west end is fondly known for its slightly hippy ways, and I wanted to share some favourite spots I found, in case you find yourself in this city and hungry for some good stuff.

Grill’d – Burgers

veggie

Ok this one is a chain, but the one one Brisbane Southbank is especially great. Just five minutes walk from the manmade Southbank beach (I know), it’s the perfect spot to sit outside and people watch. They do meat, vegetarian and vegan options all made with locally farmed, fresh produce. If you’re into any kind of healthy eating, they’ll have something for you. Their veggie vitality burger was everything I could’ve dreamed of: a beetroot, sweet potato, spinach & quinoa pattie with avocado, golden pineapple, carrot & cos lettuce. The picture above is pretty accurate, they do not scrimp on portion sizes. Combine with zucchini fries and man, good times ensue. On top of that, each month every Grill’d donates $500 back into local community projects.

Zagyoza – Gyoza

zag

Vegan gyoza. Oh my gosh. Zagyoza have both vegetarian and vegan options (as well as meat) and they have a great range of both for a fairly low price. I had their black bean gyoza and it was amazing. You can eat in store for a zero waste option, as they’re served on plates, or find them on UberEats. They also participate in YUM nights, every Monday at The End bar (just across the road) you can get your hands on $5 gyoza, $5 Asahi and half price whisky – yum indeed!

Doughnut Time – Doughnuts

do

Located basically opposite Grill’d on Southbank, these guys have a great range of vegan doughnuts. I had the red velvet, oooh it was good AND I didn’t feel heavy and weighed down after a big dessert. Extra bonus points, the server randomly gave us a third doughnut for free, so doughnut time is a winner in my eyes.

Gelare – Ice Cream

gel

The last of my Southbank faves, these guys have a whole freezer area just for their vegan options, which they make with coconut milk instead. I had their vegan chocolate ice cream on a particularly hot day. It was unreal.

SOL Breads – Organic Breads and Treats

bred

Don’t be put off by the font choice on their shop front (why is comic sans ms a thing), SOL have a range of organic sourdough, organic coffee and other organic breads for sale all made in their bakeries. They also have a cafe which serves up a range of healthy wholesome foods and coffees. I stopped in for an iced turmeric latte with coconut milk, something which is pretty much the rage here right now, and it was pretty darn good.

Insane Acai – Acai Bowls and Vegan Treats

Yes, acai is pretty cliche these days. But as well as their acai bowls these guys have a whole range of vegan desserts, cakes and general treats. Their oreo cupcakes man, they’re something else.

The Cruelty Free Shop – Anything Else

cru
For anything else you may want, The Cruelty Free Shop is an Australian chain; a wholly vegan supermarket, carrying a huge amount of food for if you want to cook for yourself, or just grab a snack on the go. They also carry health and beauty, clothes, and home products, so are a great one stop shop in the West End if you’re needing to grab anything else on the go to!

All so good, even writing about them makes me hungry. If you’re ever in this city, go forth and enjoy! Until next time, stay magic y’all.
