Firstly, if you haven’t read the beginning of my new ethical journey of body odour, you should probably catch up on that.
For those of you that are caught up, here we are! The next stage of the deodorant journey is on, and the detox phase is officially over. My wee body has now exited freak out mode where it desperately tried to get everything out through my newly freed underarms and yes, there were a few smelly moments, but I made it through. I survived the detox. My system, newly purged of all the sweat trapped inside me because of terrible anti perspirants/deodorants that were crazy bad for me, is now getting used to sweating like how normal human beings are meant to. And so far I think my systems liking it! The most immediate thing I’ve noticed is that I feel like in general I’m not really sweating all that much now, my body feels pretty regulated and in high stress situations I don’t feel as clammy as I once used to. Perhaps this is because my skin can actually breathe now? I’m no scientist, but I certainly feel better.
So, with all of that in mind, I moved on to my next deodorant to try out in my eco-friendly underarm journey, T’eo by Lush. Lush describes this deodorant as ‘A deodorant bar made of super-absorbent powders, fresh green grapes, and juniper and citrus essential oils to help you keep dry and fresh’ and you can see how it’s made here. While all of Lush’s ingredients are of course online there were a few that I was particularly keen on. Tea tree oil is antibacterial and antifungal, whilst the blend of lemon oil, lemongrass oil, juniper berry oil and green grapes makes for a combo of deodorising, antibacterial lovely smelling-ness. Needless to say, I could wait to try out this guy.
So T’eo is a little different to the last deodorant I tried out. Whilst that one had the soft, texture of soap, this is a little more dry and powdery. It feels more like compressed dry ingredients than other bars that feel more like wet ingredients that have hardened up into their current form. This means when you give yourself a rub with the bar you get a thin white powder layer on the underarm briefly, but it quickly disappears. I discovered quickly that I like the powdery feeling that comes with this one, as opposed to the more smooth oily soap vibes, as it just feels more absorbent. I imagine it’s completely in my mind but it definitely feels more like your smelly sweat is going to be absorbed up into this powder, you feel more dry. Smell wise, I really like this one. It’s definitely a very strong citrus scent but that’s often the kind of thing I love. If you’re looking for a mildly scented deodorant this may not be for you however, and I’d recommend giving them an in store sniff to decide for yourself. Aesthetically, I really love the blue cornflower petals that are pressed and included in the deodorant too, though a simple concept I do think they look gorgeous and just add a little extra touch of beauty, especially when it’s something that I’m literally going to use to eradicate my bad smells on my body it’s nice to feel a bit of pazazz. The main issue I have found with this one however is that in a little while the deodorant started to get more compact, as though those dry powdery ingredients were increasingly reluctant to leave the bar. I’ve found myself having to rub harder and harder to get the same effect, which definitely has a scratchy feel to it, although despite this effort I’m always definitely able to consistently apply deodorant.
I don’t have a ton of wisdom to give you on this one, I just wanted to fill you in on my experience with this product. The main ingredients, scent and dryness of the bar are all big pluses for me, but the increased difficulty of use has definitely come with its faffs, and a fair amount of underarm scratchiness, so I don’t have a definitel yes or no on this one. However I can tell you if you like citrus and the convenience of a solid bar (airports am I right) then this might be a bar for you. Go have a whiff, grab a sample and see how you feel when you use it. It might be the perfect bar for you!
For now my journey continues, don’t worry I’ll definitely let you know which one comes out as my ultimate favourite! Stay magic y’all.
