I gave cocoa jars for the first time last year, and I love how well they turned out. These are really great to give as a gift to more than one person, for example a married couple or family, as you just need to use a bigger container (this is a great way to use up old jars or containers that may have accumulated in your kitchen, zero waste style). I made individual cocoa jars by reusing smaller jam jars and used a big jar for a family of four, so they could just make a big batch of cocoa for all of them at once. It worked out a treat!

Again you can create these jars from ingredients in any local supermarket, so they’re a perfect last minute gift to make when you’re low on time, while still looking super pretty and festive. They’re also really easy to adapt to make them vegan friendly.

Ingredients for 1 medium jar

1 cup powdered milk (soy or almond can be found on Amazon for a vegan friendly option)
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup miniature dark chocolate chips

1/2 cup crushed peppermint sweets

Instructions

– Layer up! Add the powdered milk, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, chocolate chips, and peppermint candy to the jar to create beautiful layers.

– Decorate jar accordingly, adding a label that explains how to use: adding half a cup of the mix to one cup of boiling water and mixing until combined into cocoa goodness.

There you go. The perfect gift for happy friends with happy bellies this Christmas, and super easy to vegan-ise if needed. Have fun creating these, just try not to eat too many of the chocolate chips as you go!

Until next time, stay magic y’all.
